The New Arrival

Our new alpaca from New Brunswick arrived in Ontario safe and sound. She was delivered to H. S. Knill, a trucking company based in Paris Ontario. Knill has the facilities to unload, house, feed and water the alpacas. We picked them up a few hours after they arrived and trailered them home, about a two-hour drive.

Since Mikala was never completely weaned from Majorette we took this opportunity to separate the two of them one final time. Majorette and Velvet went into the front paddock while our two new animals, Girlie (a name that will soon be changed), her son Wikki (my grand son named him), and Mikala, went into the back paddock. This gave the two dominant females, Girlie and Majorette, a chance get acquainted through the fence before they came together.

We have now opened the gate between the two paddocks and all of the girls plus Wikki are running together.

Girlie has been putting her all into her baby in spite of being on good pasture all summer was quite thin when she arrived . We have started her on grain and have in fact increased her ration. She is now starting to gain back some of her body weight.

It is our plan for our grandson Peter to work with Wikki on the halter and next spring to show him at the Alpaca Ontario Show.

And so it goes: Chasing the dream.
